This
book far exceeded my expectations. Filled with threads of wisdom that
tie together into a robust story that exemplifies the values of the
people that built this country. Rod Thompson made me cry tears of
sorrow, live the jaw-dropping realities of strict codes of conduct and
the potential of self-meted justice, laugh out loud at a man's inner
dialogue, feel the freedom of openess that the late 1800 western
frontier offered, and most of all he made me choose sides between right
and wrong, good vs. bad. Mr. Thompson's story telling ranks among the
best I've read over the last 40 years of being a Western novel fan as
well as a student of English literature. This is a must read and I'm
very proud to recommend "The Black Hills" to all that appreciate a
"can't put it down" Western, richly crafted and on par with the best
writers of the genre.

made my jaw hit the floor a couple of times (almost literally), you made me mad
and sad and excited and also allowed me to visualize, in a very succinct way,
the backdrop and locales. You also wrote an engaging story without the horrible
language and overtly descriptive sexy stuff. Your style is enjoyable and you
wrote with honor about honor.

was it, well, let me just say that once I opened it up I did not put it
down until I had read the entire book!!!! Loved it!!! But, I have one
major complaint; It was entirely too short! Truly enjoyed how you made
me feel like I was standing right next to Cormac and Lainey! As if I had
known them for life! THANK YOU! I believe I read somewhere that you
were going to continue the story in another book? If so, I hope my
patience can hold out. It would be a true honor to meet you some day!
